Happy Birthday Skeptics Global Warming

On December 15th, Skeptics Global Warming turns one year old. To celebrate, I thought I’d take this week’s opinion piece and look back on the year-that-was on this blog.
I got started in skepticism of global warming when I read about how there was dispute over the science around global warming. I saw it as an opportunity to increase taxes and force consumers into doing things they wouldn’t ordinarily do, like pay carbon taxes.
The very first post I published was a story from Fox News where a study found that part of the global warming models may be wrong. And, as of this writing, I’ve published 1555 posts since that time. You’d think that since the science is settled and the debate is over, there would be little to discuss other than how global warming is going to ruin the planet. Apparently, the community of skeptics is alive, well and thriving.
In the early days of this blog, I was lucky to have more than a couple of visitors every day. Some days I had none. I was determined to have a blog that had several new posts each day just to keep the content fresh and give readers a reason to come back. Having a presence on the Internet isn’t enough to drive curious people, however. I had to have a little luck.
John Herron over at the Global Warming Hoax site added my RSS feed to his front page there for a while and I was instantly getting dozens of new people every day visiting my blog. John really was the first person to help me get this blog off the ground. So John, if you’re reading this, thank you.
Then Tom Nelson picked up on a couple of my posts. One of the very first opinion pieces I ever wrote Tom posted over at his blog. Of course, at that time, these opinion pieces weren’t published with any regularity. I just had some thoughts I wanted to put down. But that one post that Tom picked up on got my wheels turning, and I started cranking out almost weekly opinion posts from that point forward. And Tom’s visitors added to John’s people and I was up to 30 or 40 people on good days. I don’t know how many emails I sent to Tom thanking him for linking up to my stuff. But thanks again, Tom!
Somewhere along the line I got to know the fine folks over at The Daily Bayonet, Climate Change Fraud and Gore Lied. When I stopped doing my own week-in-review posts each week, I noticed that The Daily Bayonet started doing them, and doing them well. So I started linking up to his stuff. The Climate Change Fraud staff once over a long weekend recommended my site to visit. And Klockarman over at Gore Lied comes up with some good stuff that I just can’t find anywhere else. So thanks to those three great blogs for all they’ve done to help me and for spreading news items skeptical of global warming.
One day I had a post linked up by John Ray over at Greenie Watch. That might have been the first day I ever saw my page views go over 300. I was truly shocked by the number of people visiting from there. And while I don’t bug John Ray very much, he did publish a couple of items for me that I requested over at his blog. So thanks, John!
And while this blog is still small and modest, I take pride in knowing there are so many people that are curious about, and even skeptical of, global warming and choose to spend some of their time here. Since this blog’s inception a year ago, over 50,000 people have viewed almost 150,000 pages on the site. This blog would be nothing without its readers and those that have helped make it a success. So to every person that has visited, linked up to, commented, have emailed news tips or passed along the link to their friends, I say thank you. Each and every one of you are very appreciated.
Let’s hope for another successful year together here at Skeptics Global Warming!
