Quick Update on Skeptics Global Warming

This morning the site experienced what appeared to be a distributed denial of service attack. I caught the tail end of it and denied the IP address block and my host caught it as well and took measures to stop it and return the server load to normal. I don’t believe the site went down for any period of time, but if you visited earlier today and experienced slow load times, you have my apologies. Apparently I’m getting under someone’s skin.
On a totally unrelated topic, it’s getting more and more difficult to keep the load under control while serving up the site content. The number of visitors and page views has increased significantly, especially since December. Even with cached pages and minimal dynamic mechanisms, the site is on the brink of bursting at the seams.
This is good news, as it means the site is growing way beyond my expectations. The bad news is that I’m going to have to move to a more robust system. While the transition may be seamless, I wanted to give everyone a heads-up that there could be downtime at some point during the next few days. I appreciate everyone hanging in there as the growing pains come about. Getting the message out that the global warming debate is alive and well is my top priority and I certainly do appreciate everyone who visits the site, reads what I’ve written and even takes a minute to give feedback.
