Nuclear Aircraft to Save the World?

Let’s see how long it takes for environmentalists to shoot this one down, no pun intended. A renewed interest in developing nuclear-power airplanes is taking place. Such an aircraft would allow for many more non-stop flights and zero carbon emissions from the plane itself. A study into the feasibility of these types of airplanes (specifically, bombers) was conducted in the 1950’s but abandoned in the 1960’s as the development of ballistic missiles made the idea impractical.
