The Oregonian reported on Sunday that living near wind turbines can cause trouble sleeping, equilibrium problems, headaches and childhood “night terrors”.  I suppose clean and renewable are still valid descriptions of wind power, but I doubt we’ll hear an environmentalist add “medically unsafe” to the list.

Is wind energy the answer? From the looks of these videos, probably not. It seems these giant wind turbines aren’t always working and many are in disrepair. At the bottom of the page is a video that shows a wind turbine exploding and blades flying away from the device. Yup. Good old wind power. Doesn’t always work, it might explode and the repair costs could be enormous, but Barack Hussein Obama is for it!

A recent report by the California Public Utilities Commission says the California can’t even make its own goal of reaching 20% usage of renewable energy by 2010 or the 30% goal for 2020.  Mr. Gore didn’t stress hydroelectic power in his recent speech, which is where most of California’s renewable energy comes from.

Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick signed into law today legislation to drop all state taxes on cellulosic biofuels.  The plan, which also requires heating oil and diesel to be 2% biofuel by 2010, would provide incentives to industries that produce cellulosic ethanol.  The problem is, according to this Cato Institute article, that there is no cellulosic ethanol industry at this time and the costs associated with producing ethanol from biomass is five times the cost of producing corn-based ethanol.  So expect the new fuels, if industry shows an interest in that …

The $11 billion in annual subsidies given by the United States, Europe and Canada for plant-based biofuels isn’t doing much to reduce carbon emissions according to a report by the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development.  They go on to say that carbon emissions from vehicles in areas where the subsidies are received are looking at a total carbon reduction of 0.8% by 2015.  Another failed attempt by the environmentalists to jack up food prices, starve the poor and not reduce carbon emissions.

It’s funny how speculation really does drive the price of oil skyward.  Having failed to convert the masses to green technologies, I’m sure the environmentalists are pulling their hair out over the second largest dollar value drop in oil today after President Bush ended a ban on offshore drilling.  The move, which still has to clear a hurdle in Congress, sent a clear signal to oil traders that the United States is back and we’re tired of paying $4 or more per gallon of gasoline.  What a proud day to …
