A new type of greenhouse gas scrubber developed at the University of Calgary uses a type of chemical bath to strip carbon dioxide from the air and replace it with clean oxygen.  Once the device is ready for production, developers think that about 150 of these units would reduce man-made carbon emissions to about one-fifth.  Will it work?  No one knows for sure, by global warming-loving environmentalists have already denounced carbon-scrubbing technology.  I suppose it doesn’t fit into their tax-and-control scheme.

(Via The Atlantic). The Economist is proposing planetary-scale changes to combat global warming.  This terraforming could involve removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere or injecting sulphur into the upper atmosphere to block out some of the sun’s energy to cool the planet.  While I’m sure this would require a great percentage of the world’s GDP to accomplish, what happens if, like now, the planet is in a cooling phase?  How much more money and effort would be expended to correct that problem?

The New South Wales government in Australia is seeding the clouds in the Snowy Mountains region to increase rainfall, which after the first application increased precipitation by 10-15%.  Primary Industries Minister Ian Macdonald commented, “well this is human intervention to try and address some of the problems that may be created by human induced, too much carbon in the atmosphere.”  Since global warming causes all types of weather, what will the New South Wales government do if it rains too much?

A screen has been erected in the Swiss Alps at about 2300 meters (6900 feet) to keep cold winds over the glacier and help slow the melting glaciers. The screen measures about 15 meters long (49 feet) and about three meters (10 feet) high.

(H/T: Blog at the End of Time). Another silly idea has been proposed by scientists that just don’t seem to grasp scale. Lime can be added to the oceans to increase their ability to absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. The problem is that (a) the oceans are huge and this would be a massive undertaking, (b) limestone has to be heated to the correct temperature to create calcium oxide (lime), so how will all that heat be generated and (c) does anyone really know the …

As always, Anthony Watts has put together a quality article on the importance of measuring temperature away from human influence.  Just as the SETI people have to filter out terrestrial radio signals to look for alien signals, measurements of temperature should be no different.  In this post, Watts provides what seems to be an ideal temperature monitoring station on a mountain, only to find out that it seems to be a tourist destination.  Fortunately, this doesn’t appear to be an official temperature station.

Found this over at Read More: tomnelson.blogspot.com but wanted to elaborate on it a little. A new method of extracting carbon dioxide from the air had been discovered and it holds a promise to allow for the continued use of fossil fuels while keeping the Earth cool (if you believe in man-made global warming, that is). The device could save the economies of the world from the devastating effects of carbon taxes. But, as Tom Nelson …

Science had come up with another novel idea to solve the climate change “crisis”: change the color of the sky. The plan is to dim the sky by pumping sulfur into the atmosphere, a process known as solar dimming. This is being touted as a last-ditch effort because climate change is happening so rapidly. I wonder what the color of the sky will be? Green, I’m sure.

Scientists on the side of global warming alarmism have come up with a brilliant idea:  shoot sulfate particulates into the stratosphere to block out some of the sun’s rays, mimicking a severe volcanic eruption. The problem is that this could slow the recovery of the ozone hole by 30 to 70 years.
