Global warming activists might want to look away. Charlotte, North Carolina set a record low temperature last night, dropping to 18 degrees at Charlotte-Douglas International Airport. The previous record was 20 degrees, set in 1951. This is the earliest that the city has dropped below 20 degrees.

There is something truly special about the Gore Effect. Seemingly every time an event is staged around climate change, unusual weather creeps in and presents itself for the whole world to witness. A global warming bill debate in Britain this week was no exception.
Record cold temperatures dove the northern hemisphere in a freeze from Sweden to the United States to Britain, where London and outlying areas received snowfall in October, a first since the 1930’s.

The Carolinas are under a cold snap that has brought the states’ temperature down to mid-January levels. The Charlotte area is under a freeze warning with morning lows hovering just above 32 degrees Fahrenheit. Can someone send those people some global warming to help things out a bit?

G.W. Denier over at Global Shamming points out a couple of recent weather-related articles on recent cold snaps across the country. Pendleton, Oregon had a record low of 22 degrees Saturday morning, which broke the 118 year-old record of 24. And California’s grape country is in trouble due to the recent cold snap. The cold temperatures fortunately did little damage to the grapes in Mendocino County, but farmers there are worried after having taken huge losses this year. Now this is only a regional effect experienced in one particular month, so I can’t say this means global warming is over. However, if Ireland had experienced the warmest September in 14 years, I’m sure global warming activists everywhere would be using it as definitive proof that the world is warming. Anyway, the temperature across the country never rose above 20 degrees anywhere - which is a first in 30 years. Average monthly air temperatures were about a half-degree below normal.

NAS reports that we are in a 50 million year cooling trend thanks to plate tectonics. Original carbon-rich sea floor that was pushed under tectonics plates that came into the atmosphere as carbon through volcanic eruptions, which warmed the planet, was suddenly shut off 50 million years ago when India collided with Eurasia, forcing India’s plate over the zone that was the previous source of carbon.

(Via Planck Time). The province of Durban in South Africa experienced the coldest September night in recorded history this past weekend as snow blanketed the area and some woke up to temperatures around zero degrees Celsius. Electrical service was lost to parts of the region.
