Proud of My American Carbon Footprint

I found this little carbon footprint calculator at some pro-global warming website and thought I’d plug in my numbers to see how I fare when compared to the rest of the world.  Even taking public transportation for the majority of the week and using substantially fewer miles on my vehicle than the national average, my carbon footprint is a whopping 23.863 tons, which is larger than the average American and, get this, more than 10 times the desired world average (two tons) if we want to fight climate change.  To offset my carbon-loving lifestyle, I’d have to buy used furniture, keep all my electronics and home furnishings for at least five years, become a vegetarian, buy in-season food, buy organic and local food, drive even fewer miles in my car (I drive about 7000 miles per year now) AND cut my home’s electric and natural gas use by two-thirds.  This would bring me down to a level desired by the global warming crowd of two annual tons of carbon emissions.

Sorry, Gore.  It’s just not going to happen.
