Hansen’s Figures Don’t Add Up

(H/T: SaintKnowItAll). There’s a discrepancy between James Hansen’s data and the global temperature data produced by three other institutions according to this Telegraph article. It appears Hansen has been adjusting pre-1970 temperature data downward while adjusting post 1970 data upward. Hansen was forced to republish his figures once in the past to show the hottest years on record didn’t happen in the 1990’s but rather in the 1930’s.

It’s interesting to note that James Hansen is routinely referred to as the “Father of Global Warming” by the man-made global warming alarmists. James Hansen has been actively pushing the global warming agenda for decades starting in 1988 with his testimony before a Senate subcommittee. 20 years later, current weather information shows Hansen’s 1988 predictions of the future were wrong by as much as 300%.
As wrong as he has been on the global warming issue over the years, on June 23, 2008, Mr. Hansen continues his blind crusade when he wrote, “CEOs of fossil energy companies know what they are doing and are aware of long-term consequences of continued business as usual. In my opinion, these CEOs should be tried for high crimes against humanity and nature.”
Despite his overtly activist nature in the area of global warming, Mr. Hansen is director of the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) in New York and the information provided by this very organization (GISS) seems to be coming under increased scrutiny for it’s accuracy. There are documented cases where the GISS has gone back in the data sets and readjusted temperature data - ultimately tilting the data in favor of a global warming trend.
Articles such as this raise the question of whether NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies might be better served by a director not directly invested in the outcome of the man-made global warming debate.
