While there could be a weak link between carbon dioxide output and global temperatures if you stand on your head and look at the graphs while crossing your eyes, it seems water vapor could prove to be the main contributor to global warming, if it existed.  In this article, the author explains that global warming is only kicked off by a catalyst, in this case it’s carbon dioxide, but the engine that keeps it running is water vapor.  The possible reason this isn’t being reported by scientists is that they don’t have an accurate way to measure it, as water vapor remains in the atmosphere about half the time as carbon dioxide due to the conversion of it from a gas to a liquid and back into a gas.
