Shouldn’t We Be the Only Ones Talking?

With so many across the country and around the world listening to Gore-speak and hanging on his every word about melting ice, drowning polar bears and sea-level rise, many of those same people have forgotten one important phrase uttered from the global warming figurehead: “the debate is over.â€
As I read the news headlines from various sources across the Internet, I’m astounded by the number of global warming alarmist websites out there in the blogosphere and the daily news items carried by the mainstream media. Many of us skeptics were sure the debate was over. The leader of the climate change campaign told all of us that the debate was, indeed, complete. There’s a scientific consensus, he said. Just with many positions where the foundation isn’t solid, those who support the global warming theory are out in droves to discredit anything and anyone that disagrees with their position.
But why? After all, if the same person that declared this “crisis†is right about global warming, why isn’t he right about the closed debate? Or is he right, as far as global warming alarmists are concerned, but their pride and arrogance get in the way?
Maybe it’s simple intolerance. The intolerant climate alarmists on the Internet fire up their laptops, build blogs dedicated to global warming and wait to pounce on unsuspecting victims that dare question their authority or the science behind climate change. Some even bring in unrelated topics, like evolution, to the debate to attempt to convince their readership that global warming skeptics also disagree with that theory. If you read some of the items posted by various alarmist blogs, you’ll get a sense of the following:
- The globe started warming in the 1940’s and never stopped.
- Carbon dioxide is the single most important contributor to global warming.
- The planet has never cooled since 1940.
- If the planet has cooled, you [the skeptic] aren’t taking decadal average mean temperature into consideration.
- Skeptics don’t believe in the Big Bang theory, either.
- The sun isn’t a factor.
- Polar bears are drowning.
- Sea level is rising.
And while the alarmists continue to debate anyone that has a brain with a dissenting opinion, they continue to fire up their computers, probably powered by fossil fueled electricity producing companies to make their points known. Note to global warming hoaxers: we get it. Your side thinks the debate is over. Your king has spoken. Act like the debate is over rather than wasting precious electricity on a cause you’ve already closed the book on. Meanwhile, those of us who think peak oil is a myth and fossil fuels are here to stay will continue to express our dissenting opinion and science facts to counter the alarmists. We don’t think the debate is over, but you do. Therefore, shouldn’t we be the only ones talking?

It’s not the liberal way to listen. Watch any news show that has a liberal and a conservative and you will find the liberal will never shut up. Especially when wrong, the liberal will talk louder and longer so nobody gets a chance to hear the facts. It worked rally well in this election. That, and their attack the messenger policy is what keeps them going.
And, if you say something enough times, whether it’s true or not, it will eventually become fact. I guess that’s what these bloggers are hoping will happen and all the skeptics will magically vanish into thin air.
A few days ago I made the mistake of joining a climate change conversation on a popular news blog. After a few posts where I presented scientific facts and conclusions I found myself labeled as a heretic. I was accused of not being a scientist. Another scientist also joined in only to be abused by an alarmist thug. It seemed to me that these were political emotional and indeed religions outbursts of hate designed to discredit the messengers, and not to debate the science.
It occurs to me that the average person is not capable of understanding scientific arguments and is reduced to accepting science from politicians and the media who are themselves not capable of debating science. Science as politics is not pretty. But its pretty dangerous.
I don’t think I’ll join another one of those message board debates.
Dan, thanks for the comment.
It’s been my experience that many of these people aren’t interested in a debate but by defending the global warming hoax, that’s exactly what they’re offering. However, you can’t win. If sunspots covered the sun tomorrow and global temperatures jumped immediately, alarmists would still deny our nearest star having anything to do with climate.
Glad to have you visiting the site, Dan. I look forward to more insightful comments in the future.
There is a truly iconic photograph from the past. Taken on 17th December 1903 it shows the Wright Flyer lifting off from the rail and flying under its own power, the first powered flight in history. Orville Wright is lying prostrate on the Flyer and Wilbur has just let go of the wing. The camera was set up to point at that specific place, and snapped the image just as the Flyer lifted off under its own power. There were a further three successful flights that day at Kitty Hawk, and further flights on subsequent days as the two brothers and the guys who helped them worked out ways to do it better.
The whole point of this short narrative is this.
The image was labelled a hoax, and for the following three to four years, literally hundreds of Scientists all across the known World, came out with categorical proof, all backed by irrefutable Science, that a craft heavier than air could not lift off the ground and fly under its own power. People believed the Science from these scientists, and it wasn’t until it actually started to become commonplace did people start to believe it could in fact actually be done, and then saw it with their own eyes.
The same applies with this Global Warming/Climate Change myth. People blindly accept what some sectors of science tell them, because they have no idea about the science themselves, blindly believing it is true.
Skeptics are the ones like those two brothers. We physically have to show that science has two sides, and to keep pointing out the false belief. One side believes it is true, just as much as they honestly believed the Wright Brothers did not fly.
As much information as the ‘believers ‘ have, skeptics can point to the same amount of science to show the other side. One thing that we as skeptics also need to do is to point out the implications and the consequences to come if we are to accept this false belief, because that too, is a relevant part of the same argument.
Tony.
There is a lot of money to be made by the people that teach the world that co2 has to be cut , They will say anything it takes to get the laws and taxes changed so that there money making scheme will start to pay off.
When the climate finaly does start to really cool down , they will claim it was because of there efforts. Until it starts getting to cold , then they will invent another lie.
