European Union Carbon Taxes Airlines

The European Union Parliament voted earlier today to include airline emissions in their greenhouse gas emissions reduction program.  The act, to begin in 2012, would allow the airlines to purchase carbon credits to offset their emissions.  In addition, each airline would be required to reduce carbon emissions by 3% in 2012 and 5% per year beginning in 2013.
