Why Do Democrats Want to Bail Out Big Auto?

All American Blogger has some interesting analysis here on the Dems’ push to bail out Big Auto in the United States. Since these same Democrats are against offshore drilling, for cap-and-trade systems and love high energy prices, why would they want to help an industry that creates carbon-spewing automobiles? Aside from the article commentary at All American Blogger, I have two ideas, personally: one is to guarantee votes in subsequent elections from auto workers and the other is to place tighter government restrictions on how the industry works in the future by forcing increases in hybrid and electric vehicles while decreasing pure fossil-fuel options.
