It’s that time once again where politicians and rock musicians from around the globe fly their carbon-emitting private jets to a location on the planet to raise awareness of global warming. Live Earth, to be held on December 7th in Mumbai India, is still working on the attendee list but has confirmed Jon Bon Jovi. Al Gore, surprisingly speaking from satellite rather than flying in his personal jet to India for a personal message, said India was chosen because it’s the world’s largest democracy and has significant influence on the global economy. Pushing his 10-year clean energy plan, Gore challenged India to use all clean and renewable energy in that time frame. All proceeds will go to the Light a Billion foundation, supported by IPCC chairman Rajendra Pachauri, which hopes to give a billion people without electricity solar-powerered and renewable lanterns. Pachauri remarked that India didn’t cause these [environmental] problems but is a by-product of industrialized nations. Gore added that India could combine its traditional respect for the environment with the latest technologies to help cut greenhouse gas emissions. Really, Mr. Gore? Did you happen to read about India’s critical pollution levels from an article last year? Cars in India have poor emissions tracking and may stay on the road for 10 to 15 years unchecked.
