(H/T: Blog at the End of Time). Another silly idea has been proposed by scientists that just don’t seem to grasp scale. Lime can be added to the oceans to increase their ability to absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. The problem is that (a) the oceans are huge and this would be a massive undertaking, (b) limestone has to be heated to the correct temperature to create calcium oxide (lime), so how will all that heat be generated and (c) does anyone really know the environmental impact to the oceans by depositing loads of lime?
