Al Gore, Global Warming Hoax Lead Story »
Al Gore had an editorial piece printed in the New York times today. It’s full of typical environmentalist talking points but only half of the truth is provided. Follow along as I share my comments (in bold) under each of Gore’s paragraphs (in italics) so help break down the truth from the hyperbole. While I’ll only excerpt parts of the opinion piece, the entire op-ed can be read by following the link at the bottom of this post.

Tomorrow night in and around Cambridge, Massachusetts, is forecast to be so cold that it could break a record low set 125 years ago. This isn’t the first time winter-like temperatures have hit at the same time as an environmentally-friendly event. Back in December, it was a snowy day in Washington on the day of a global warming vote. Proponents of global warming in Maryland were blanketed with snow in January. And back in June, more global warming activists had to endure unseasonably cold temperatures in England.

Global Warming Hoax Lead Story, Hurricanes »
I recently read an article over at the Duke Chronicle that discussed the link between global warming and hurricanes and, more importantly, the inability to link global warming and hurricanes. The article says that Hurricane Ike reignited the debate of whether or not a link exists between hurricanes and climate change. Having done my own study on the connection between tropical systems and temperature, I can tell you that I didn’t see any connection. Activists, however, see things differently. Al Gore recently tried to link the two, citing higher temperatures …

The Old Farmer’s Almanac, established in 1792, points to global cooling rather than global warming, and says the sun has a lot to do with climate. In the near-term, the Almanac predicts that most of the United States will have a cooler-than-normal winter and an active hurricane season in 2009. Will the tried-and-true complex calculations of the Old Farmer’s Almanac prove to be a better predictor of climate than computer models that forecast global warming based on anthropogenic carbon dioxide emissions? Only time will tell.

These guys just can’t get their predictions right, so why even bother trying? The new forecast says there’s an 85% change of an above-normal season, up from 65% in May. The original forecase called for 12 to 16 named storms but that has been revised to 14 to 18 named storms, of which seven to 10 are expected to become hurricanes. In the year 2030, it is expected that the gross domestic product of the United States will suffer a 1% cut if greenhouse gas-reducing legislation is enacted. While this number is large but manageable, the real hit on the economy will come if emissions are required to be cut too quickly.

Global Cooling »
Natural cycles in ocean currents, not anthropogenic carbon emissions, have pushed the planet slightly cooler since 1998 when an El Nino-induced heat wave covered the planet. The latest research indicates that this cooling trend could last a total of 20 years before natural forces reverse it.

Disputing Global Warming »
With predictions of more severe hurricanes and storms thanks to global warming (which I debunked earlier this week), Dr. William Gray has another idea. He says that global warming has been grossly exaggerated and calls all the dire warnings “hype”. Gray also took a swipe at the mainstream media for creating unnecessary public hysteria over global warming.

Forecasters are anticipating that Hurricane Bertha will once again strengthen over the next couple of days as it nears Bermuda. Being the first hurricane of the season, environmentalists everywhere are surely holding their collective breaths in anticipation of a Category Five storm that wipes out half the United States so they can blame it on global warming.
