Earlier this year, I told you that college football may never be the same because the Ohio buckeye tree is moving north to Michigan.  On the campus of Ohio University, a huge campaign took place to warn students of the evils of climate change.  Apparently that message spread to Wisconsin as their match-up against the University of Illinois on Saturday, Oct. 25 has been designated a carbon-neutral game.  The university was able to purchase carbon credits to offset any greenhouse gas emissions during the game, made possible by an anonymous …

A new study out of Ohio State University suggests that river floods and storms that send water flowing into marshes and wetlands may help reduce overall greenhouse gas emissions in those areas. Methane levels were about twice as high in areas with slow, steady water when compared with areas that had gushing water added to the system.

(Via Politico).  Obama’s Vice Presidential pick Joe Biden was asked by a supporter of solar and wind energy at a recent stop in Ohio if he supported both solar and wind.  Biden said yes, and went on to say that he was the first to introduce global warming legislation and the first to support solar power.  He also said there will be no coal plants built in the United States (how are you going to power the country, Joe???) and, if they’re going to be built, they should be built …

(Via Tom Nelson).
From the article:
70 percent agreed that global warming is a proven fact, not an unproven theory. However, fewer than half - or 46 percent - blamed man-made emissions.

Ohio, known for its buckeyes and its Buckeyes, may be forever changed thanks to global warming.  It seems the buckeye tree may go the way of the Dodo bird and migrate north to Michigan.  On the campus of Ohio State, signs are being erected that warn of the evil dangers of global warming and even a reference to the newly-minted Michigan Buckeyes.  Let’s hope college students at Ohio State University aren’t as gullible as those pushing the global warming myth.

By James Nash
A recent poll of 530 climatologists in 27 countries showed 34.7 percent of interviewees endorsed the notion that a substantial part of the current global warming trend - which might see temperatures rise by a degree or two, on average, by century ’s end - is caused by man ’s industrial activities: driving cars and the like.
More than a fifth - 20.5 percent - rejected this “anthropogenic hypothesis.” Half were undecided. The skeptics now include the 85 climate experts who signed the 1995 Leipzig Declaration; the …

Liberal Columbus, Ohio Mayor Michael B. Coleman has stepped up the city’s “Get Green Columbus” program by recognizing businesses that have made an effort to become more environmentally friendly.  Coleman hopes that potential customers will patronize those establishments asking that residents “support them, buy from them, visit them and thank them.”  I’m sure the expense each business has incurred to make themselves more green is passed on to the customers.  Will these higher prices drive consumers to lower-priced alternatives?

The Department of Energy recently awarded $126.6 million in grants to fund research into storing carbon dioxide gas underground in California and Ohio. Locations of power planets, oil wells and geological formations have been mapped across the United States as potential underground carbon dioxide storage facilities.

On Sunday we learned about new eco-funerals complete with natural fiber clothing and cardboard coffins.  The bad thing is that, just like with real non-eco-funerals, you can go as cheap or expensive as you’d like.  I, for one, would like to see the most expensive cardboard coffin.  Surely it can’t compare to some nice mahogany.  Also, it was determined that a carbon tax won’t make drivers stop using their vehicles.  People love their cars, and even after the price of gas has shot up to record levels, people still drive.

I posted an article earlier today that discussed the need for a larger greenhouse tracking system to understand regional greenhouse emissions. However, this article gives a county breakdown of the largest greenhouse gas emitters in Ohio. Question is, do taxpayers need to foot the bill for this new, large and probably over-priced system or are we being fleeced by global warming alarmists yet again?
