Update: Where’s the Global Warming Outrage Over Hurricanes?
WIth Hurricane Gustav dealing a glancing blow to New Orleans, the city won’t, at least for now, experience an event similar to Hurricane Katrina in 2005. With Katrina being the poster storm of the modern global warming movement, I wonder where the global warming activists are with the latest round of tropical storms. There have been Hurricanes Bertha, Fay, Gustav and now Hanna (recently downgraded to a tropical storm) so far this year that have been contenders for threats to the mainland United States. Gustav only made the Democrats suddenly believe in God, but no real activism has taken place from the global warming activists lately. I wonder if it could be my article debunking Al Gore’s claims of increases in number and of intense storms due to global warming? Could it be others that have expressed the same conclusion?
Governor Bobby Jindal recently released a positive statement of hope, encouragement and sympathy for those families affected by Gustav. There was no hate shown for FEMA or blame for President Bush as was evident with Hurricane Katrina.
Since there was no major damage like that unleashed during the wrath of Hurricane Katrina, one has to wonder if we’ll get any message at all from Democrats and their friends in the environmentalist camp. After all, a hurricane is a hurricane, right? If global warming isn’t any better than it was three years ago, why haven’t the development of four storms that have potentially threatened America been denounced as being global warming-induced? I suppose there is no photo opportunity and advancement for the global warming cause when Democratic mayors can evacuate their cities on time, levees that were earmarked for study by the Army Corps of Engineers had their funding cancelled during the Clinton administration actually hold, and people don’t die by the hundreds. Global warming is all about opportunism; having a natural event hit at the right place at the right time. So far this year, preparedness and respect for each storm have saved countless lives. And, because of that, there can be no outrage.
Update: I stand corrected! Pirate’s Cove has an article here on the mainstream media carrying the water for the global warming activists. I guess the real leaders of climate change were busy flying in their personal jets to some far-off location to talk about ways you (not them) should change their lifestyles to stop greenhouse gas emissions.
