Yes, yes, of course. Not many people are prepared to take action in support of their beliefs. But this is a bit of light relief, really, isn't it? There are certainly larger issues taking our attention recently.

Still, unless there are other reasons for staying put, such as advancing age, this is another example of good intentions being led astray by lack of reason.

Like the idea that we really can subsist on wind power, and other impractical green dreams.

Cheers.

Good points there, Richard. No, the article wasn't tongue-in-cheek. With Bette being environmentally conscious, I have to applaud her for doing what no one else does: change her lifestyle. Albeit people will still flock from around the country (and possibly the world) to see her in Vegas, I don't know how many of these people are truly trying to help the environment. Hey - I can throw a bone to an environmentalist for actually trying to help rather than just buying carbon credits, right? :)

Good comment, though. You're absolutely right about people burning more fossil fuels to travel to her. But I have to give kudos to Midler for practicing what she preaches.

Touching. Perhaps moving. Now, let's just think a moment…

If 50,000 people travelled an average of 500 miles to the concert, that would be 25 million personal travel miles. If Bette Midler's entourage (50 people?) travelled to 30 venues, each 500 miles from the previous venue, that would be 750,000 personal travel miles.

It's more sensible for Bette Midler to move around the country, not her whole bloody audience! Is there anybody with Bette Midler capable of rational thought?

Or is this story so tongue-in-cheek I completely missed it?

(I love her work, by the way.)
