I’m a Shill, You’re a Shill
God bless the global warming activists. It must be tough having to defend their positions daily all while trying to indoctrinate new members into their modern-day good ol’ boys club.
While we all know Al Gore stands to profit from the global warming machine due to his investments in companies that produce carbon credits and green technologies, the same isn’t true in reverse. Many of the folks I know that remain skeptical about anthropogenic global warming are just like you and me. Some of them are married and some have kids. Some of them are retired meteorologists. Some of them are scientists. Some are college students that simply don’t buy into the global warming hype. But none of us are on the payroll of big oil and really don’t stand to profit from our healthy skepticism of global warming. What we do stand to lose, however, is more of our hard-earned cash to government programs designed to combat this so-called planetary emergency. We’re regular folks just trying to pay our mortgages and feed our spouses and our children and we don’t want to be cash cows for another failed social program. Just as Gore stands to profit from global warming, we stand to lose from it.
Because we oppose global warming, we fall into the cross hairs of environmentalists everywhere. Understanding and tolerance of our position goes out the window until we’ve been reduced to being obvious shills for whatever corporation or institution could potentially promote skepticism of climate change. Against alternative energy? Must be a shill for big oil. After all, they don’t want to give up their big profits (roughly 8%, hardly big) to solar, wind, hydrothermal and geothermal energy sources. And I bet they’re paying for us to be skeptics! Livestock is being blamed on global warming. But I’m a “meatetarian” (it’s a lifestyle choice). I must be a shill for the meat industry. If I drive a vehicle with a large engine with lots of horsepower, am I shill for big auto? This is what skeptics of man-made global warming have become to climate change alarmists - shills. Once the science behind the climate crisis has been debunked, all that’s left is name-calling and assumptions about our personal finances. Alarmists, think about this: by towing the global warming line, you’re helping a few dozen people get a little richer off the backs of millions, or billions, worldwide. By refuting the global warming myth, you’re helping millions, if not billions, keep their hard-earned cash and preventing the rich from getting even richer. This isn’t my primary purpose for running this blog, as I simply don’t believe in global warming much as an atheist doesn’t believe in hell, but to push for new government regulations and programs to stop a phenomena that hasn’t been proved is only going to take money out of your pockets in the end. And with as much complaining as there has been about gasoline prices in this country, it sounds like every dollar matters. Every energy source is important, but eliminating oil from the picture - especially in only 10 years - is impractical and is only going to make you wish you only had to pay $4.00 gasoline by the time the taxes are taken out of your check.

Here’s what will happen.
Current government imposes carbon tax. This acts as a commodity tax, so it hits the lower income group harder.
I get screwed.
A bunch of squits with nasty haircuts become carbon credit brokers and get filthy rich.
I get screwed.
New government of right-wing loonies is elected. They decide to “reduce the tax burden” - on the filthy rich, of course. The carbon tax stays.
I get screwed.
They also deregulate the carbon credit market. The squits get richer still. Then they mess it up, the bottom drops out, and we get yet another financial crisis. The squits demand, yet again, that the taxpayer rescue them.
I get screwed.
Not a lot of joy in it for me.
